About Y Prentis

Y Prentis – company structure

‘Y Prentis’ is a Not for Profit Limited Company which is owned by Melin Homes (a registered social landlord) and CMC²/Monmouthshire Council (a Community Interest Company owned and managed by Monmouthshire County Council).

The purpose of Y Prentis is to deliver a Shared Apprenticeship Scheme in partnership with Construction Skills Wales across the South East Wales region. Y Prentis is different from many other construction training schemes as it enables apprentices to move flexibly between a number of employers, whilst being employed by Y Prentis. This means that our apprentices can gain a full apprenticeship qualification whilst having an opportunity to gain many different working skills including brickwork, plastering and civil engineering. Training and work placements for our apprentices are provided by local colleges and a number of local employers.

Y Prentis has four Directors, two from Melin Homes and two from CMC²/Monmouthshire Council. Peter Crockett and Adrian Huckin are the Melin Homes Directors.

Cath Fallon is the Assistant CEO of CMC² Monmouthshire County Council’s creative Community Interest Company. Prior to this Cath had been manager of adventa, Monmouthshire’s Axis 4/LEADER rural development programme since July 2002. Cath’s role involves the day to day management of CMC². Activities include CMC² Digital - a Digital Impact Service providing high tech graphic design and digital interpretation services; Monmouthshire Enterprise - Monmouthshire’s leading economic development agency which includes adventa; CMC² Green a renewable energy agency and of course, Y Prentis.

The other director is Rob O'Dwyer, Head of Property Services & Facilities Management at Monmouthshire County Council. Prior to this Rob was Property Business Services Manager at MCC. Rob is currently Chairman of CLAW and a Gateway Reviewer at Welsh Government.

Y Prentis – Management Board

These four Directors form part of a Management Board which oversees the day-to-day management and delivery of Y Prentis, measuring and monitoring the performance of the Scheme. The Board also includes a representative from Construction Skills Wales who acts as an observer and the staff who are delivering the programme. It is the role of the Board to consider the overall interests of the Y Prentis scheme to ensure that it meets the needs of the apprentices, the employers, the training providers and the funders. The Board meets monthly to ensure that Y Prentis activities are managed in accordance with the Y Prentis Business Plan and regular reports are presented to the Y Prentis Advisory Panel.
