The Y Prentis Mindset

We want to support the next generation of apprentices to be the best that they can possibly be. To support this, we have developed the Y Prentis mindset which underpins the behaviour and approach that we expect from our apprentices.

A ‘can-do’ attitude

We want our apprentices to have the best apprenticeship experience, and that starts with a positive mindset. Our apprentices have the opportunity to learn from master trades people, so we want them to make the most of the opportunity by showing a good work ethic, maintaining good time-keeping skills and always doing your best.

Excellent communicator

We believe excellent communication will play a key part in our apprentices’ success. We encourage our apprentices to have open and honest conversations with us and their host employers about any concerns they have so that we can support them in the best possible way.

Welcome change

We give our apprentices the opportunity to move around and learn from different contractors. We encourage our apprentices to embrace news sites and ways of working by accepting new experiences and building relationships which can create opportunities for future employment.

Takes responsibility

We want our apprentices to take pride in what they do and carry out day-to-day tasks to the very best of their ability. We all make mistakes, but we want our apprentices to take responsibility, listen to constructive criticism and learn from them.

Respect for colleagues

We place our apprentices with a number of high performing contractors so in return we expect our apprentices to show respect towards their peers at all times.

Willing to learn

Our shared-apprenticeship model gives apprentices the opportunity to not only learn the essential skills for their qualification, but new modern methods of construction. We encourage our apprentices to always look out for an opportunity to learn something new or improve on what they already know. We want our apprentices to seek advice, asking questions and taking on board feedback that will help them improve.

Always work safe

We expect our apprentices to be mindful of health and safety matters at all times, ensuring they contribute to creating a safe working environment for both themselves and their colleagues.

Be an ambassador

We want our apprentices to act as an ambassador for Y Prentis and apprenticeships in construction. We give you the opportunity to share your views, values and experiences and act as a role model within the industry to inspire the next generation of construction apprentices.
