Y Prentis sponsor skills competitions at Coleg Gwent

Throughout January, Y Prentis sponsored the carpentry, brickwork and multiskills competitions held at Coleg Gwent’s City of Newport Campus.

Across the three trades, over 100 construction level 1 and 2 learners took part in a day-long competition for their chance to win a brand-new set of tools, sponsored by Y Prentis. Each competitor was not only tested on their technical abilities, but their time management, character and commitment to the task they had to complete.

Rachel, winner of the Level 1 carpentry competition, said: “I couldn’t believe it, I was ecstatic! It was a tense but good atmosphere in the workshop. I tend to be a bit fastidious with the preparation, so I was slow to get started and ended up having a crazy last hour, but it all came together in the end.”

Nabil, winner of the Level 2 brickwork competition, said: “It was usually my day off, but I came because I really wanted to do the competition. It was a long day and I didn’t expect to win, but it feels great to be recognised for my hard work.”
