Apprentice Advisory Panel launched to help shape future plans

Following the success of our Partner Advisory Panel, we have launched our Apprentice Advisory Panel who met for the first-time last Friday (7 December).

Our Partner Advisory Panel is a collection of individuals who represent a number of our partners that we work with. They collaboratively guide the company and influence formal decisions which are made by our board of directors. Following the success of this panel, we decided to launch an Apprentice Advisory Panel, which gives our apprentices the opportunity to influence how the scheme is run and have their say on future plans.

The panel is made up of apprentices from across the south-east region and represent various trades within the industry. They are at different stages of their apprenticeship, bringing diverse experience and knowledge to the group.

The panel met for the first time on Friday at ISG’s Head Office in Tongwynlais. They spent some time getting to know each other before discussing their expectations from the scheme. They shared their own experiences, discussing what they valued, areas that they felt we could improve on and offered some useful suggestions for us to consider. They also reviewed our current marketing collateral which is aimed at potential apprentices, evaluating their current formats and discussing what we could do to improve our communications with young people.
Charlotte Price, Quantity Surveying Apprentice currently working with ISG, said: “Being part of the group is an amazing opportunity. The first meeting was a great way to meet other apprentices and find out other people’s opinions on how things work. The Apprentice Advisory Panel is also an opportunity for Y Prentis to give feedback on any questions that apprentices may have asked them in the past. and it was great to hear the answers to these.”

Ieuan Humphries, Plastering Apprentice currently working with NTJ Plasterers, said: “It was a really good opportunity to meet other apprentices’ my age and a great opportunity share our stories and experiences. I think it’s an amazing idea to have an advisory panel so that we have can discuss our concerns as well as the joys of our apprenticeships.”
Emily Spruce, Painting and Decorating Apprentice currently working with the Melin Homes Direct Workforce, said: “I enjoyed the advisory panel. It was great to get involved, feel part of the team, have an input into matters and possibly make things even better for future apprentices. I think it’s a good idea to have a meeting like this and a great opportunity for Y Prentis to keep us in the loop with upcoming plans.”

Darryl Williams, Y Prentis Programme Manager, said: “The Apprentice Advisory Panel is a great opportunity to find out from our apprentices what they really think. By listening to both our Partner Advisory Panel and Apprentice Advisory Panel, we will be able to provide apprenticeships which meet both the industry’s need and deliver quality job opportunities for young people.”
The panel will meet quarterly and will discuss various topics that are crucial to the successful running of the shared apprenticeship scheme
