Andrew wins highly commended at the FMB Cymru Master Builder Awards
Last Friday (10 May), carpentry apprentice Andrew Hardy received the “Highly Commended” award in the Apprentice of the Year category at the FMB’s Cymru Master Builder Awards.
Andrew is one of Y Prentis’s older apprentices who is currently placed with Willis Construction. He has been employed as an apprentice since April 2018 and is studying towards his Level 3 NVQ and diploma in site carpentry at Coleg y Cymoedd. He also takes an evening course to complete his Level 1 Diploma in Plumbing in his spare time.
During his apprenticeship, he has worked on a number of sites with Cadwyn Housing Association and the Vale of Glamorgan Council. He is currently working on the development of the playgroup facilities for Wick & Marcross Primary School and is trusted by Willis Construction to carry out additional work beyond what is expected of an apprentice.
Peter Jenkins, Construction Manager at Willis Construction, said, “We’re absolutely thrilled that Andrew was awarded with the “Highly Commended” award at the FMB Cymru’s Master Builder Awards ceremony. This is a remarkable achievement when considering the other worthy shortlisted nominations and he should feel delighted that his abilities and enthusiasm has once again been recognised by such an important industry body. We hope that Andrew displays the certificate with pride alongside his NFB Apprentice of the Year trophy which was awarded to him last month.”
Darryl Williams, Programme Manager at Y Prentis, said, “Andrew thoroughly deserves all this recognition that he has received from both the FMB and NFB. Making the decision to change careers after a number of years’ of working within the sports industry to pursue a career in construction has most certainly paid off, and his drive to succeed and incredible dedication will no doubt take him very far within the industry.”
