Where are they now: Daniel Hearse

Daniel joined us back in 2012 as bricklaying apprentice studying at Bridgend College. During his two-year apprenticeship, he worked with a number of high performing contractors such as ISG and Bouygues Construction, and gained not only his diploma and NVQ levels 2 and 3 in bricklaying but also his key skills in maths and English.

After gaining his qualifications and completing his apprenticeship with Y Prentis in 2014, Daniel went onto explore new challenges and moved to Australia where he successfully built a career as a self-employed bricklayer. He spent two years working in Australia, using his skills to help him secure a job and explore an exciting part of the world.

Daniel has recently returned to the UK and now works for a leading nationwide construction company. As well as climbing the career ladder, he’s recently bought his own home and started a family.

Daniel said: “Y Prentis provided me with the opportunity to work with lots of different companies throughout my apprenticeship, giving me experience of the different ways they work and the various systems that they use to complete their projects. As well as helping me gain lots of hands on experience and improving my knowledge and skills of the trade, it helped boost my confidence and communication skills within the work place.

“Gaining all these skills, qualifications and experience has allowed me to have a career that I can pursue wherever I wanted to in the world, so I decided to move to Australia for a few years. The valuable experience and confidence I gained made fitting into my career in construction a lot easier.

“I’d like to thank everybody at Y Prentis for the support and giving me this opportunity!”
