New apprenticeship opportunities at Gwaun Helyg in Ebbw Vale

Darryl Williams (Programme Manager – Y Prentis) and Alex Johansen (Design & Build Coordinator – Pendragon)

Y Prentis, working in partnership with Linc Cymru, Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council and housing developers Pendragon, have secured three apprenticeship opportunities for local people on the Gwaun Helyg development in Ebbw Vale.

The 72-home development will host a number of apprenticeship trades, including bricklaying and carpentry. It will give local people the opportunity to gain valuable training and work experience while working towards an NVQ qualification in their chosen trade, and help ensure that career opportunities continue to be provided at a local level.

Darryl Williams, Programme Manager for Y Prentis, said: “There is a demand for more skilled labour within the construction industry, particularly in the Valleys Taskforce Area, so to be able work with Pendragon, Linc Cymru and Blaenau Gwent to deliver these apprenticeships is fantastic. These opportunities will really help several young people within the area gain the necessary skills and qualifications to build their career in construction.”

Recruiting for these placements is underway. To register your interest in becoming an apprentice with Y Prentis or to find out more about the scheme, visit www.yprentis.co.uk
