Emily Spruce, a 21-year old apprentice painter and decorator from Newport, has secured a place to work towards her NVQ level 3.
Emily joined the Y Prentis scheme earlier this year while working towards her NVQ level 2. Working with the Melin Homes Direct Workforce, Emily’s skills have gone from strength to strength and she has now secured a place to work towards achieving her NVQ level 3 at Coleg Gwent over the next two years.
Dave Badham, Melin Homes Direct Workforce Painting Team Leader, said: “Emily joined the painting team and fitted in straight away. She’s worked on voids and learnt many techniques and methods of painting. She’s currently working on the planned external programme, painting windows, doors and shed areas. She’s also using scaffolding to paint fascias and is beginning to learn about working at height, developing a good understanding of health and safety. She’s working very well with the team and is always very polite with residents on site.”
Emily said: “My painting and decorating apprenticeship with Y Prentis is going really well. I’m really enjoying it and my confidence is building every day. I’m currently working with the Melin Homes Direct Workforce who are really great to work with. They look after me and I’m learning lots of new stuff from them all the time.”
Y Prentis supports young people across south east Wales by providing them with opportunities to gain extensive and diverse work experience while working towards an NVQ qualification in their chosen trade. Since 2012 we have helped to train more than 220 apprentices and provide nearly 550 qualifications.
